This project took form when I saw an old building worn by time waiting for restoration.
Continuing the Inside/Outside project, developed in Leitrim, Ireland, I showed a specific site, occupying six of the seven rooms of this old building, with outside actions brought into it.
A camera put outside the house takes live images and through a projector the image is projected on one of the walls of the first room. Two rooms remained with the doors closed, and next to them are pictures of several colorful doors from Manorhamilton, which also are always closed. In another room the sound recorded on the street fills the room.
The walls of the 6th room are covered with sheets that I spread on the pavement before, allowing people to walk and leave their footprints on them. The 7th and last room is totally occupied by trash bags, representing exactly the inside and outside, i.e. everything that was thrown away with this action returns to its origin.
This performance is part of the Inside/Outside project, developed in Manorhamilton, Ireland.
It is about the relation inside and outside: in this performance the situations are inverted, one showing intimate actions made on the street, and another, showing urban actions that happen inside a house.
The basins of aluminum, in one of the artificial lakes give the welcome to the visitors. The objects are out of the place and put out of the context causing in the visitor a strangeness about the place. There is a whole symbolism, which takes to this strangeness, but at the same time, let the association with the interference of the human being and their many intervention in a natural context.
Brightness that take us to legendary classification and universal abundance, of the power. Metaphor of possibilities and power. A power submitted to ignorance and negligence. Metal and water. Soluble or not?
Water: pure or polluted. Metal on water: the power of scarcity on water, the abundance and the limit. The basins at the same time means scarcity. There is symbolically, a game of power and distance, fantasy and reality that can be chanced in melancholy.
In this case, the inaccessibility of the basins brings a message that differs from its usual protective function, limited spatial and practical. Its synonym of alert. A call to reflect. Objects that, out of the context and with its function transferred to a non place, getting a new symbolic function that, this time, about the place and the context that they are in, alert us about how the way we act can still avoid the catastrophe.
The same time, here, the relation with the landscape will generate a discussion in relation to “interference” in the experience, reminding of each person that visits the place with personal references, letting everyone insertion, from these personal experience approach and interpretation of the artist's proposals.
